PHYS1211 - Dr. Andrei Galiautdinov

Beginning in Spring 2017, Dr. G will be implementing Peer Learning Assistants in his PHYS1211 course. Four PLAs support approximately 100 students. Thursday classes are devoted to conceptual lectures. On Tuesdays, the PLAs lead problem solving activities that they also help create. Groups of three work together during class time with the support of their PLAs and Dr. G. In addition to supporting these class meetings, PLAs are also enrolled in FCID 3100, a weekly, one-hour course designed to enhance the mentoring skills of Peer Learning Assistants.

Sample materials created by Dr. G. and his PLAs can be found HERE.

PHYS1211 Peer Learning Assistants for spring 2017

Spring 2017

Four PLAs will support Dr. G's PHYS1211 course during spring 2017. This is the first implementation of Peer Learning Assistants in this course. A Learning Community of faculty across various STEM disciplines meet monthly to share strategies and lessons learned. As the PLA program at UGA continues to grow - it doubled in size from fall 2016 to spring 2017 - best practices are identified and shared to aid in the development of this robust, high-impact instructional approach.
