PHYS1112 - Dr. Bill Dennis

Beginning in Spring 2017, Dr. Dennis' PHYS1112 lecture will be supported by Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs). Approximately 150 students are enrolled in this course which meets in one of the SLC's large auditoriums. Seven PLAs for spring 2017 attend lectures, which are interspersed with problem solving activities. PLAs have previously completed the course, and bring their perspectives to current students to support learning and participation. In addition to attending lectures and interacting with students, these PLAs attend a weekly pedagogy seminar, sharing their experiences with PLAs from other disciplines and honing their mentoring strategies and skills.

Peer Learning Assistants for PHYS1112 Spring 2017

Spring 2017

Seven PLAs will support Dr. Dennis' PHYS1112 course during spring 2017. This is the first implementation of Peer Learning Assistants in this course. A Learning Community of faculty across various STEM disciplines meet monthly to share strategies and lessons learned. As the PLA program at UGA continues to grow - it doubled in size from fall 2016 to spring 2017 - best practices are identified and shared to aid in the development of this robust, high-impact instructional approach.
